ABSTRACTION AS A ROUTE TO A NEW FREEDOM – Because of its complexity and lyrical expression in German it is not possible to translate Gerald Felbers language into English without significant alteration and loss.
For that reason only a very much shortened summary can be given here:
“in his most recent works Frank Roedel takes an unambiguous step away from relatively concrete expression into a world of free association, touching both the particular and the general of our perceptive capacity, finding behind each particular object something like a natural holism, which sees the microscopic forms of life in a drop of water as well as the infinite expanses of the universe, and which, like some dreams, create their own non-linear spaces.
By moving through and transforming these “landscapes of the soul”, they remain captured in the fixed work in so far as it reflects not immovable objects but dynamic processes and which contains – despite the serious approach – something highly playful. It is a route into abstraction which is also , at the same time, a route to a new freedom.”
