ON THE CURIOSITY IN AND ENTRY INTO A LITTLE KNOWN TERRAIN – Moving pictures are of increasing significance and weight in my pictures, not only for documentary reasons but also as an interesting and creative artistic medium.
It is of particular value to me as a possible path to merging what has been seen and experienced in nature and the pictures that emerge from that experience in the studio. The filmic is also a very malleable and accessible reference point for the external viewer, giving insight into experiences and encounters that have then been shaped into works of art.
It would not be possible to achieve such connections, enmeshing and interleaving by simply contrasting different photographs. In addition, if one is to demand so much from it, film has to be seen as an autonomous artistic language.
One documentary film being produced by the 900Second film company, based in Munich and Berlin, once again gave an important additional impetus to my efforts to intensify and perfect my work in this métier.
Working on this documentary opened up a whole new perspective on the world of film, which I would not have been able to access on my own. I look forward to further developments in this métier because it offers me a broad and previously untapped design spectrum, which I see as an extension and enrichment of my creative faculties.
