Bangkok – After an invitation and a teaching job at the RIT Department
of Fine Arts (Rajamangala Institute of Technology/
Poh Chang Campus) for the winter semester 2001/2002,
prompted by the ambassador to Germany from the
Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Kasit Piromya, I spent a few
months in the Thai capital.
Bangkok – the pulsating city which moves in the tension
between modern architecture and western city life on
one side and on the other the unrestricted Thai cultural
and living traditions with all their foreignness, overwhelming
colours and love of detail, which can sometimes appear
to western eyes as bordering on the over-ornate.
Great, open-hearted people and the definite feeling of
welcomeness, interesting encounters and, last but not
least, the exciting work with the students, made it easy
for me personally to find out about the city and the
singularly unique and enriching culture in great detail
and to turn it into another facet in the thematic spectrum
of my work.
